The crowning glory of the town of Altea is, of course, the blue dome of the parish church in the old town of Altea.

Formerly the town of Altea was one of agriculture and fisheries; today tourism is important. This has doubled the number of people in 15 years and Altea currently has around 24,000 inhabitants.
One of the many festivals in Altea falls in the month of August. This feast is accompanied by a great fireworks display from the beach of the Mediterranean.
The main beach of Altea is the beach "Cap Blanch", starting in Albir. To the north lies the beach of "Cap Negret", ending in the small beach with black pebbles, "Cala del Soio". Another popular Altea beach is "Playa de la Olla", which sits opposite the isle of Altea with the same name. Playa de la Olla is also the beach where a big Altea fireworks display in August is held.
Altea has only pebble beaches. For sandy beaches you can go to nearby Calpe or Benidorm
There is a port exclusively for members of the Club Nautico of Altea. This small harbour is called "Porto Enso". There is also the fishing port of Altea itself, which is adjacent to the boulevard of Altea in the Albir Playa direction.
Altea la Vella (directly behind Altea)
The slopes of the mountain "Sierra Bernia" lie just behind the village of Altea where you will find Altea La Vella. In this village you will find some small canning of agricultural products from the hinterland of Altea.
